IPL 2026: KKR pacer Blessing Muzarabani Banned for Two Years ahead of CSK clash

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has handed a stern two-year ban to Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani, barring him from the next two editions of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The decision, announced on April 14, 2026, came after a formal disciplinary review found the tall pacer guilty of breaching his contract with Islamabad United by withdrawing at the eleventh hour to join the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders.

Blessing Muzarabani left PSL to join ISL

Muzarabani had been signed by Islamabad United as a replacement for West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph following the PSL 2026 draft. Reports indicated his deal was worth approximately PKR 11 million (around INR 36-40 lakh).

However, in mid-March 2026, just days before the PSL opener on March 26, he pulled out after KKR offered him a spot as a replacement for Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman. Mustafizur had been released by KKR on BCCI instructions amid external developments. KKR confirmed the signing, and Muzarabani joined their squad, arriving ahead of the IPL season that started shortly after the PSL.

PCB ban Muzarabani for Two Seasons

The PCB viewed the last-minute exit as a serious violation that disrupted franchise planning and affected team preparations. Islamabad United was forced to scramble for a replacement close to the tournament start. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had earlier warned of strict action against such pullouts, referencing the one-year ban imposed on South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch in 2025 for a similar breach.

Naqvi publicly stated that the board would enforce rules to protect the league’s integrity, signaling a firmer stance this time with a two-year suspension.

“Following a thorough disciplinary review, the PCB has announced that Zimbabwean cricketer Blessing Muzarabani is declared ineligible to participate in the next two (2) editions of the HBL PSL, effective immediately. This decision stems from a fundamental failure to honor agreed-upon commitments, an action that undermines the professional framework of the league,” a statement from PCB was quoted.

He stood out in the T20 World Cup 2026, taking 13 wickets and showcasing his steep bounce and pace. The ban aims to deter future breaches and send a strong message that PSL contracts must be respected. Similar cases involving Sri Lankan players like Dasun Shanaka have also drawn scrutiny.

KKR, meanwhile, will be up against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026 on Tuesday (April 14) and the Knight Riders’ pacer may play a part in the match.
