9 lakh government employees and pensioners of the country have received Christmas gifts. The Gujarat government has given this gift in the form of increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief. According to the information, it was announced to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 3 percent to 53 percent of the basic salary for about 9 lakh employees and pensioners. This decision will come into effect from the previous date of July 1, 2024. The Finance Department issued a proposal to increase DA from the existing 50 percent to 53 percent of the basic pay under the Gujarat State Service (Pay Revision) Rules, 2016. The arrears for the period from July to November will be paid in January 2025 along with the salary and pension of December.
Increase in DA and DR
The Gujarat government on Wednesday announced an increase in dearness allowance (DA) from 3 percent to 53 percent of the basic pay for about nine lakh of its employees and pensioners, the decision will be effective from July 1, 2024. The Finance Department issued a proposal to increase DA from the existing 50 per cent to 53 per cent of basic pay under the Gujarat State Service (Pay Revision) Rules, 2016, benefiting over nine lakh employees and pensioners. It said that the arrears for the period from July to November will be distributed in January 2025 along with the salary and pension of December.
Which employees will benefit?
All state government and panchayat employees, teaching and non-teaching staff in secondary and higher secondary schools, and employees of aided non-government schools covered under the 7th Pay Commission will benefit from this hike. With appropriate amendments, its benefit will also be available to the primary teachers and employees working on deputation or transfer in Panchayats, who have got the approval for salary revision as per the Commission. The matter of increasing DA for state government employees and pensioners by 3 percent from the existing rate of 50 percent to 53 percent from July 1, 2024 was under consideration of the government. After thorough consideration, DA has been issued.
