The number of domestic air passengers in January-June 2026 stood at 864.04 lakh, which is an annual increase of 1.44%. However, June saw a decline of 1.03% on a monthly basis. IndiGo remained the leader with 64.3% market share.
New Delhi [भारत]July 21 (ANI): According to data released by the Civil Aviation Ministry, domestic airlines in India carried 864.04 lakh passengers in the January-June 2026 period. This is an annual increase of 1.44 per cent as compared to 851.74 lakh passengers traveling in the same period last year.
The ministry’s traffic report showed that passenger traffic continued to increase on a year-on-year basis during the first six months of 2026, however, the number of passengers declined on a monthly basis. Domestic airlines carried 134.64 lakh passengers in June 2026, whereas in the previous month i.e. May this figure was 136.04 lakh. In this way, a decline of 1.03 percent was recorded on monthly basis.
Passenger load factor of airlines in June
The report also gave information about the passenger load factor of scheduled domestic airlines for June 2026. Akasa Air recorded the highest passenger load factor with 92.2 percent. It was followed by SpiceJet (87.8%), Air India Group (85.5%), IndiGo (85.1%), Star Air (75.0%), Fly91 (73.2%), Alliance Air (61.7%), and IndiaOne Air (59.3%). Air India Group includes Air India and Air India Express.
Indigo’s dominance in market share
According to the data, IndiGo continued to dominate the domestic aviation market during the January-June period. Its market share was 64.3 percent and it carried 555.83 lakh passengers. Air India Group stood second with 25.7 per cent share, transporting 221.67 lakh passengers. Among other airlines, Akasa Air carried 47.42 lakh passengers with 5.5 per cent market share, while SpiceJet transported 28.10 lakh passengers, accounting for 3.3 per cent of the market. Star Air carried 5.03 lakh passengers with 0.6 per cent market share, followed by Alliance Air with 0.4 per cent market share at 3.47 lakh passengers. Fly91 carried 2.41 lakh passengers (0.3 per cent) and IndiaOne Air carried 0.10 lakh passengers during the period. (ANI)
