There is a big relief news for lakhs of commuters who spend hours every day in traffic jams of Delhi-NCR. The Delhi government has opened its treasury to completely change the picture of the capital’s transport system. A new era (Phase VB) of Delhi Metro is going to begin with a huge budget of about Rs 48,204 crore. Under this mega-expansion, more than 97 kilometers of new tracks will be laid and 65 new stations will be built. While approving this project, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has made it clear that this scheme will be a lifeline especially for those outer and fast-growing areas, which till now were cut off from the connectivity of the main city to some extent.
Government has maximum focus on 4 routes
It is not easy to implement such a huge infrastructure project simultaneously. Therefore, taking strategic steps, the authorities have placed four out of seven routes in the ‘Priority’ category. The direct aim of the government is to operationalize these four important corridors by the year 2029. For this, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will work by dividing the detailed project report into different phases. Delhi government has given green signal to this proposal at the cabinet level and the report has been sent to the Centre. Now only the final financial approval is awaited from both the governments, after which the construction work will gain full momentum.
Outer Delhi’s luck will shine
For an ordinary employee or businessman, this news simply means huge saving of time and freedom from the hassle of travelling. After this expansion, residents of outer areas like Narela, Najafgarh, Kheda Kalan and Mithapur will no longer have to face hassles to reach Central Delhi. In the new plan, excellent coordination of both underground and elevated tracks has been maintained. The biggest convenience for passengers will be that many new interchange stations will be built, which will make changing lines very easy. According to the Chief Minister, in areas where there is lack of easy public transport, this new network will act as a lifeline and make travel safe.
Note these 7 new metro routes in your diary
- Dhansa Bus Stand to Nangloi (11.859 km): This will be a completely elevated route. This corridor with 9 stations will cover Ranhola, Bakkarwala and Najafgarh Extension.
- Central Secretariat to Kishangarh (15.969 km): This route, which will be built mainly underground, will have 10 stations, which will provide excellent connectivity to JNU, RK Puram and New Moti Bagh.
- Samaypur Badli to Narela (12.89 km): This extension of the existing line will reach Narela via Siraspur and Alipur, which will have 8 elevated stations.
- Kirti Nagar to Palam (9.967 km): This route will connect the people of Mayapuri and Sagarpur with metro, in which 6 stations including underground and elevated will be built.
- Jor Bagh to Mithapur (16.991 km): This long corridor with 12 stations will connect the areas of Lodhi Colony, Jaitpur and Moldaband.
- Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase-3 (13.197 km): This route will prove to be a boon for the residents of Geeta Colony and Patparganj, which will include 8 stations.
- Keshavpuram to Rohini Sector-34 (16.285 km): This elevated track will connect Pitampura, Rohini and Delhi Technological University (DTU) to the main network with 12 stations.
This entire blueprint has been prepared to solve the problem of ‘last mile connectivity’ of Delhi. As soon as Phase V (B) is completed, Delhi’s public transport will reach such a global level, where daily travel will not be tiring but a comfortable experience.
