667 meter long bridge with Google Map, Rs 40 crore expenditure and incomplete handover… Who is responsible for the accident?

We have become so dependent on technology that leave alone talking to the people around us, we are forgetting to even look at them. There was a time when people used to decide their route by asking directions from paan gumthi vendors. Many times the paan seller would give you the option that this route is long but good, this route is short but bad. Not only this, he also told all the things about the dangers on the way, due to which people became alert in advance. But, we have become so dependent on technology that now that time seems like a dream. The accident that occurred on the Ramganga river between Bareilly and Badaun districts is also the result of a similar technology. For the people crossing the road relying on Google Map, this accident that happened on the Ramganga river between Bareilly-Badayun district of UP is no less than a shock.

This has become a topic of discussion these days, people are making their own arguments and openly expressing their opinion on that accident. But, is it really all that simple? If Google Map is showing the way somewhere and there is barricading there, then don’t we turn around? Not only this, in situations like traffic, procession, VIP visit, even though Google Map is trying to take us to that route, we cannot go there even if we want to. Because someone always stands there to guide us or there is a notice board pasted there. This means that technology is not entirely at fault. So whose fault is it in the accident on the Ramganga river bridge? In which three innocent lives were lost without any reason.

lives would have been saved

The fault lies with every person who was responsible for the construction of that bridge till its maintenance. The bridge was broken after the flood on the river last year, since then the movement on the bridge was closed. To stop people, a wall was also built here as a formality. But, like the government promises, that wall was also broken and after that no one paid attention to it. No one put up any sign board or barricaded there. If any of these had been present at the starting point of the bridge, perhaps three lives would have been saved.

PWD on target

On the orders of the administration, Naib Tehsildar Chhaviram has lodged an FIR against 4 PWD engineers and 5 others. Now the DM of Badaun and Bareilly will jointly investigate this accident. The construction work of the bridge has been done by the Bridge Corporation, but after the accident, the Regional Engineer of the Bridge Corporation has shied away and said that this bridge was handed over to PWD in 2021 itself. Can a bridge be so weak that it breaks within two years of being built? After building the bridge, approach roads had to be built on both sides, which was the work of PWD. Overall, after the handover the responsibility became that of PWD. Therefore, in this matter the first blame has also fallen on 4 engineers of PWD.

The bridge was built only in 2020

Three people have lost their lives in Bareilly and now a series of allegations and counter-allegations has started. Yes, the construction of the bridge in whose construction negligence has come to light was completed in 2020 itself. It also cost Rs 40 crore to create the police. This 667 meter long bridge was built. After this, PWD had to build approach roads on both sides of the bridge. Initially for 2-3 years the department kept moving the construction files from here to there, later this approach road was built. Due to which movement could start on the bridge. However, the river flooded last year and the approach road was washed away. After the approach road was cut for about 500 meters, the movement of people stopped again. Local people complained many times to the administration about this bridge but no one paid any heed. In such a situation, it is not right to put all the blame on just one department, all the responsible departments should together answer for the loss of those lives.
