Maruti Suzuki is preparing a direct rival to the Tata Punch, and the vehicle is expected to be based on a heavily updated version of the Ignis. Instead of building an entirely new car, the brand is reworking an existing platform to create a more SUV-focused product.

In terms of design, the vehicle is likely to shift from a hatchback stance to a more upright and rugged stance. Higher ground clearance, a stronger road presence, and improvements in cabin practicality could be expected. Under the hood, it will most likely continue with the tried-and-tested 1.2 litre petrol engine producing around 89 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. Transmission options should include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. With the right pricing, the vehicle could become a strong contender in the micro-SUV space.

The vehicle is speculated to launch in mid-2026 and could be priced from ₹6.5 lakh to ₹ 10 lakh on-road in Mumbai.

Under the hood, the current 1.5-litre petrol engine with 102 bhp and 137 Nm of torque would be retained. However, there are speculations that a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which could offer a more engaging driving feel, could be added. Gearbox options may expand to include a 6-speed manual alongside the existing automatic. It is expected to get an underbody CNG tank for improved practicality without compromising on mileage.  Feature additions like ventilated seats, a larger touchscreen, powered and ventilated front seats and a digital instrument cluster are also expected.

The vehicle is expected to arrive around mid-2026, with on-road prices ranging from ₹10 to 14 lakhs in Mumbai.
