New Delhi: 5 minute video call, marriage in 3 days and divorce on the 9th day. This story is about ‘Gu’, a 32-year-old man from China, who had to get married in a hurry due to pressure from his family and is now stuck in legal troubles. This case is from Zhejiang, the eastern province of China.
The matchmaker showed haste
According to the report of South China Morning Post, Gu had registered in a matrimonial center by paying about 200 yuan (about Rs 3,000). The center showed him three local girls, but things did not work out. After this, the matchmaker assured Gu that he would find a girl for him from another province and get him married within two days. Gu’s family agreed to this. In this connection, in April, Gu was introduced to a 30-year-old girl from Shanxi province in north-western China.
Relationship is confirmed without seeing or meeting
In the girl’s profile on the matrimonial site, it was written that she had no debt, no criminal record and no serious illness. It was also mentioned in the profile that he has no problem in getting married soon and settling in another city. After this there was only a 5 minute video call between the two. Gu asked about the girl’s job and family, but the matchmaker was answering most of the questions. The girl just told that she is a salesperson. The matchmakers also promised to provide the girl’s credit history report and medical certificate before marriage. Gu and his family agreed to the marriage without even meeting face to face.
36 lakhs spent on marriage
Gu’s family spent a total of 2,65,000 yuan (about Rs 36 lakh) for this marriage. This included 1,00,000 Yuan bride price (bride price) and 1,60,000 Yuan matchmaking fee. After this he asked the matchmaker to bring the girl to his city. After three days both of them registered their marriage. Gu’s family had never met the girl’s parents. After the marriage, when Gu asked for medical and credit reports as promised, the matchmaker was reluctant. Feeling suspicious, Gu took his wife to the bank and got her credit report. He was shocked after seeing the report. The girl had a loan of 1,00,000 yuan (about Rs 14 lakh).
A big mess and divorce
The girl clarified that this loan was from her ex-boyfriend and she had nothing to do with it. Gu also came to know that his wife’s real name was something else, which was revealed through his mobile payment app. The very next day, the girl told Gu that she had some liver problems and needed to lose weight. Now Gu understood that he had been cheated. Just 9 days after the marriage she filed for divorce.
round of allegations
At first the girl agreed, but later retracted and filed a case against Gu. She showed the medical certificate in the court and claimed that she was deeply shocked by the divorce and had gone into depression. He also demanded 50,000 yuan (about Rs 7 lakh) as compensation. The girl also alleged that Gu used to pressure her to do make-up, do household chores and look for a job. At the same time, Gu has also filed a case against the matrimonial center to get back his fees of 1,60,000 yuan. The center says that Gu married the girl he had introduced him to, so the money will not be refunded. On the contrary, the Center has accused the couple of colluding to defraud them.
