Toyota recently launched the Glanza facelift in India, and on paper, it looks like a pretty complete package. It gets a new engine and a long list of features that were unthinkable in this segment not too long ago. But no car is perfect, and a few things are still missing. Let’s take a look at what the Glanza does right, and then nitpick on what it doesn’t.
What The Glanza Gets Right

The Glanza has received its biggest update in years. The new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine is more fuel-efficient, with claimed figures of 23.80 km/l (MT) and 24.77 km/l (AMT) in petrol mode. Toyota also offers a CNG option with a new AMT gearbox, which returns up to 34.47 km/kg.
The feature list is impressive too. Ventilated front seats, a cooled wireless charger, a 9-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, TPMS, six airbags as standard, and Level-2 ADAS on the top V (O) variant.
5 Features The Glanza Misses
Despite all this, here are five features that its rivals, namely the Hyundai i20 and the Tata Altroz, offer, but the Glanza doesn’t.
1. Sunroof

This is the big one. Both the i20 and the Altroz offer a sunroof, and it is one of the most requested features in this segment. The Glanza, just like the Baleno, doesn’t get one.
2. Digital Instrument Cluster

The Glanza continues with analogue dials and a small colour MID. In comparison, the Altroz offers a 10.25-inch fully digital cluster, while the i20 gets a TFT display. It makes the cabin feel a bit dated.
3. Bigger Touchscreen

The 9-inch touchscreen isn’t small by any means, but the i20 and the Altroz both offer larger 10.25-inch units.
4. Turbo Petrol & Diesel Options

The Glanza is only available with a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine (with a CNG option). If you want more punch, the i20 N Line comes with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. And if you want maximum mileage on long runs, the Altroz is still offered with a 1.5-litre diesel. Neither choice is available on the Glanza.
5. Gearbox Options

The Glanza’s only automatic option is a 5-speed AMT. The i20 offers a smoother CVT automatic; with the N-line models, it also gets a DCT option. And the Altroz is available with a dual-clutch automatic (DCA). If you are looking for a smooth and refined automatic for city traffic, the Glanza’s AMT may not be as satisfying.
