Warsaw: A prominent critic and cartoonist of Russian President Vladimir Putin has been shot dead in Poland. Robert Kuzovkov, 44, who created cartoons under the name Semyon Skrepetsky, was killed in the attack. The incident occurred on Monday morning in the Polish city of Biala Podlaska near the Belarus border. The attacker shot him in a car park. This place is just 600 meters away from the Consulate of Belarus. According to reports, Robert was shot five times in the head, chest and back.
Polish police said they had found bullet casings from the scene. Two citizens of Belarus have been detained in this case. The police is investigating whether he has a direct hand in this murder or not. Robert fled Russia and came to Poland in 2021, because the Putin government was putting constant pressure on him. Through his cartoons, he openly mocked the political policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarus ruler Alexander Lukashenko and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. For this reason he was recognized internationally.
Just a few days ago, Robert took part in the ‘Russia Day’ protest in front of the Russian Embassy in Berlin. He had reached there with a picture, in which Putin and former Soviet Union ruler Joseph Stalin were made fun of. That picture showed Putin as a child playing in Stalin’s lap with bloodied lips. That day he tied a Russian flag to the back of his pants and dragged it on the road. The videos of this protest went viral on social media.
