Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been entertaining the audience with his powerful acting for the last several decades. Even at the age of 81, Big B is continuously working in films. He has many big budget films to his credit. Soon he will be seen in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ with Prabhas and Deepika Padukone. In the 70s, when Amitabh Bachchan was emerging as a great actor, Rajesh Khanna had a strong hold in the industry. There came a time when both the superstars became each other’s fierce competitors.
While Amitabh Bachchan’s image was becoming that of an ‘angry young man’ in the industry, everyone used to call Rajesh Khanna ‘kaka’. In the 80s, when Rajesh Khanna’s career started going off track, Amitabh’s career was at its peak. During those days, the megastar’s film ‘Laawaris’ was released in theatres. The superstar also had a special dance number in this film. The name of the song was ‘Mere Angne Mein’. This song became popular among the people and also became a favourite of the fans. But Rajesh did not like this song at all.
Amitabh wore a sari and a bindi
Amitabh Bachchan wore a saree in ‘Mere Angne Mein’. To complete his look, Big B wore a big bindi on his forehead, sindoor in his maang, kajal in his eyes, long hair and lipstick on his lips. He shot this song after getting into a woman’s getup. But Rajesh Khanna’s opinion about this song was quite different from everyone else. He did not find this performance respectable at all.
Rajesh Khanna’s taunt on Amitabh Bachchan
Yasir Usman has mentioned this incident in his book Rajesh Khanna: The Untold Story of India’s First Superstar, and has written that Rajesh told a film magazine in 1982, “I will never compromise my dignity and will not wear a sari for money and worldly praise, nor will I do it in my courtyard.” This statement of Rajesh Khanna surprised everyone. Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Laawaris’ proved to be the biggest hit film of that year 1981. Apart from this, Big B’s films Kalia, Yaarana and Naseeb also hit the screens that year.
