India’s automobile market is witnessing rapid transformation, with new models entering the market almost every month. While the mid-size SUV segment has long been dominated by the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, Honda is now preparing a strong comeback. The Japanese carmaker is reportedly planning to launch three new SUVs in India, including its first all-electric model. Recent sightings of these vehicles undergoing testing in Manali have sparked excitement among automobile enthusiasts, indicating Honda’s aggressive strategy to strengthen its position in the country’s highly competitive SUV market.
Honda’s first electric SUV could be biggest game-changer
The highlight of Honda’s upcoming lineup is expected to be the Honda 0 SUV, the company’s first dedicated electric vehicle for India. Unlike many electric cars that are converted from existing petrol-powered models, this SUV has been developed on an entirely new EV platform. It is likely to make its debut in early 2027, marking Honda’s entry into India’s fast-growing electric vehicle segment.
Futuristic design and promising driving range
Spy shots captured during testing in Manali reveal a futuristic design featuring a flat roofline and a boxy silhouette. Industry reports suggest the electric SUV could be equipped with a 60kWh to 70kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of more than 400 kilometres on a single charge. If these specifications are confirmed, the SUV could become a strong contender in the premium electric SUV category.
Honda Elevate facelift may arrive around Diwali
Honda is also expected to introduce a facelifted version of its popular Elevate SUV later this year, possibly around the Diwali festive season. The updated model is likely to receive several premium features, including a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, and enhanced technology, making it more competitive against rivals in the mid-size SUV segment.
Honda ZR-V Hybrid to strengthen the premium SUV portfolio
Alongside its electric and refreshed SUV offerings, Honda is reportedly preparing to launch the ZR-V Hybrid in India. The premium SUV is expected to feature a 2.0-litre strong hybrid powertrain capable of delivering an impressive fuel efficiency of around 22.8 km/l.
