Leg-spinner Karn Sharma has officially announced his retirement from all forms of Indian and domestic cricket late Saturday night. At 38 years old, Karn has represented India in 4 matches, which include 1 Test, 2 ODIs, and 1 T20I.
Karn made his retirement announcement following a match for the Kanpur Superstars in the UPT20 League. His final game will be against the Meerut Mavericks at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium on August 25.
In his retirement statement, Karn expressed, “I just want to retire. I will play my last match on Tuesday and after that, I will retire from all formats.”
He also mentioned, “After this, I will be available for coaching and other cricket-related responsibilities.”
Karn took a moment to express his gratitude to his supporters, stating, “I want to thank the people who supported me. My family, BCCI, Railways, UPCA, Andhra, and all those who supported me on this journey, I am very grateful to them.”
International debut in all three formats in 2014
Karn, hailing from Meerut, began his international cricket career in all three formats in 2014. He played his sole Test match against Australia in Adelaide.
His only T20 International appearance was against England in Birmingham, and he played both of his ODIs against Sri Lanka in the same year.

As a seasoned domestic cricketer, Karn has taken 270 wickets across 97 first-class matches. He has also claimed 153 wickets in 123 List-A matches and 168 wickets in 191 T20 matches.
He has represented Railways, Andhra, and Vidarbha in domestic cricket, starting his age-group cricket journey with Uttar Pradesh.
First player to win three consecutive IPL titles
Karn holds the distinction of being the first player to secure three consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) titles. He achieved this feat with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016, followed by Mumbai Indians in 2017, and Chennai Super Kings in 2018.
He added a fourth IPL title to his accolades with Chennai Super Kings in 2021. This announcement was made on August 23, 2026.
