New Delhi: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s poor run continued in the India A series as the opener fell for a four-ball duck in the against New Zealand A at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Saturday, October 31. After being asked to bat first, Jaiswal was removed by pacer Fraser Sheat in the first over.
After his dismissal, Devdutt Padikkal and Sai Sudharsan helped India A recover, forging a 91-run partnership for the second wicket. Sudharsan was dismissed by Jarrod McKay for 41, while Padikkal continued his brilliant form and scored 80 off 140 balls.
The visitors then suffered a middle-order collapse, which left them reeling at 137/5. But captain Dhruv Jurel batted well and stitched two crucial partnerships with Manav Suthar and Akash Deep to help India A recover, lifting the team to 291/7 at the close of play.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s form a major concern for India ahead of Test series
Jaiswal’s poor form is a major concern for India ahead of the two-match Test series against the Blackcaps, starting at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on November 19. The 24-year-old opener has not scored a fifty in the red-ball format since August.
In the first unofficial against New Zealand A last week, Jaiswal scored 17 and 5 in the two innings. He has also opened the batting for Mumbai in their first game of the Ranji Trophy against Chandigarh at home earlier this month and fell for a 13-ball duck.
After the Test series against Sri Lanka, Jaiswal has registered four ducks in nine successive innings. In the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, Jaiswal departed for a duck in the second innings. Across three innings during the series, Jaiswal scored just 77 runs. He had also registered a duck in the practice match against the SLC XI before that Test.
Jaiswal was included in India’s ODI squad against the West Indies but was benched for all three games. He was then dropped from the ODI squad for the five-match series against New Zealand, beginning on November 4 in Auckland.
