There is an atmosphere of panic due to a mysterious disease in Kathalbari village of Dighalbank block of Kishanganj district of Bihar. So far three children have died due to this disease. A child has gone into coma. Seeing the seriousness of the incident, Kishanganj District Magistrate Vishal Raj visited the village with a team of health officials and took stock of the situation. He appealed to the villagers not to panic and not pay attention to any kind of rumours.

The District Health Committee and administration immediately organized a health camp. Also, samples of dead children were taken and sent to Patna for investigation. The Health Department said that the actual cause of death will be known only after detailed examination of the sample. At present the cause of death is not clear, but infectious disease or other possible causes are being investigated. The team of administration and health department is present in the village for the last two days and health check-up of all the children is being done. People are calling it witchcraft.

Fourth child’s condition worsened, doctors referred him

Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajesh Kumar told that 3 children of the same family have died. The fourth child was admitted to the medical college, but in an atmosphere of fear the family brought the child home. As soon as we reached home, the child’s condition deteriorated again. During the examination, the condition of the child was not found to be good, after which the team of doctors referred him by ambulance to IGMS for better treatment. Health officials have urged the family to pay special attention to the child’s condition and get immediate treatment.

‘Villagers should remain calm, the situation is under control’- District Magistrate

District Magistrate Vishal Raj urged the villagers to avoid any kind of rumors and keep the situation peaceful. He said that the administration and health department are keeping a close watch on the situation and no one needs to panic. In particular, he urged parents to take care of children, maintain cleanliness and be careful about their eating habits.

Instructions for alertness and help to the health department

Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that the health department team has advised the local people to be cautious about health and hygiene. He also said that if any child’s health worsens, then immediately contact the nearest health center or sadar hospital. The medical team, which has been camping in the village for two days, has checked up all the children and advised the families not to ignore signs of any health problem.

District administration keeps strict vigil on the situation
