Vijay’s last film ‘Jana Nayakan’ earned well in India and abroad on the first day, but could not achieve the big target of opening Rs 100 crore. Performance in the domestic market was weaker than expected.
Thalapathy Vijay’s last film ‘Jana Nayakan’, released after a delay of almost seven months, had a great start at the box office, but could not live up to the record-breaking expectations of the trade. The film received an overwhelming response in Tamil Nadu, while its performance in other states was relatively weak. The dubbed version also could not bring the audience to the theaters as expected. However, the film recorded strong earnings in the overseas market, especially in North America. The total earnings of India and abroad were good on the first day, but the worldwide opening estimate of Rs 100 crore could not be met.
How much did ‘Jana Nayakan’ collect at the box office on the first day?
According to reports, ‘Jana Nayakan’ made around Rs 42.70 crore nett and around Rs 50.28 crore gross business at the Indian box office on the first day of its release. Initial estimates were for a net opening of more than Rs 50 crore, but the film could not reach that figure. Due to this, it could not even make it to the top-5 list of Tamil films having the biggest opening.
How was the worldwide collection of ‘Jana Nayakan’?
The film performed better in the overseas market. Especially in North America, the premiere and first day earnings were very strong. Good response was also received from other international markets. The worldwide opening of the film, including Indian and foreign earnings, was approximately Rs 80.28 crore.
Could ‘Jana Nayakan’ be among Vijay’s biggest opening films?
No. Despite the first day’s earnings, ‘Jana Nayakan’ could not achieve the top position among Vijay’s biggest opening films. It lagged behind the initial earnings of films like ‘Leo’, ‘GOAT’ and ‘Beast’. Not only this, it remained below the opening of many other big Indian films, due to which the film could not even make it to the list of top-24 Indian films in terms of worldwide opening.
