
Protests against the revised Waqf Act in Murshidabad in West Bengal on Friday took place, which became furious on seeing it. Violence erupted after the protest. After this, an attempt is being made to control the situation. A senior police officer said on Monday that the situation in Murshidabad, violence affected in West Bengal, is gradually becoming normal, shops are opening again and the displaced families are returning.
Additional Director General (ADG) Javed Shamim once again informed about the normal situation. He said, efforts are being made to restore peace and stability in the affected areas. Shops have started opening and people are returning to their homes.
“19 families returned to their homes”
ADG said, so far 19 families have returned to their homes. Both Malda and Murshidabad are working together to ensure the safe return of those people. The ADG further said, 210 arrests have been made so far to create anxiety and incite violence. At the same time, he appealed to the people not to trust rumors. He said, I urge people not to believe in rumors and verify information. If we have to maintain peace, then we have to stop spreading rumors.
Three people died
Due to the demonstration on the Waqf Amendment Bill in West Bengal, the situation was very tension. Violence erupted in this extent that three people died in this. Also many people were injured. The situation became serious on Friday in Suti, Dhulian, Samserganj and Jangipur areas of Murshidabad.
Referring to the ruthless killing of a father and son, the ADG said, a separate case will be registered and all the persons, criminals and spectators involved in this murder will be held accountable. Also, criminals will be punished strictly. He said, it will take time to identify the accused, but no one will be spared.
Police stationed in the area
After the violence erupted, the police is trying to normalize the situation again. In this episode, on Tuesday morning, the police were seen making public announcements, encouraging shopkeepers to reopen and the residents to return to normal life. ADG Shamim said, the first priority of the police is to restore a completely normal situation in Murshidabad and we are confident that it will be achieved soon.
Protests have been going on since Friday in some areas of West Bengal regarding the Waqf Amendment Act. Due to this demonstration, there were reports of unrest in many areas including Sati, Shamsherganj and Jangipur. Many policemen were also injured.
