15 lakh more votes yet 31 seats less… Why are you more surprised by Sharad Pawar’s defeat than Ajit’s victory?

In the election battle of Maharashtra, Congress, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav and Prakash Ambedkar’s party have also been defeated, but the most talked about defeat is of Sharad Pawar. Senior Pawar, who is contesting the last elections of his life, has lost to his nephew Ajit on those fronts where he was considered the strongest.

Sharad Pawar’s defeat is also shocking because he got more votes than his nephew Ajit in the entire election, but less seats. This has neither happened between Shinde and Uddhav nor between Congress and BJP.

Got more votes but less seats

According to the Election Commission data, Sharad Pawar’s NCP has got 11.28 percent votes, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP has got only 9 percent votes, but the difference in the seats won by both is quite big. In terms of numbers, more than 72 lakh voters of Maharashtra have voted in favor of Sharad Pawar’s party.

At the same time, about 58 lakh voters have cast their votes in support of Ajit. Despite this, Ajit’s party has won 41 seats, while Sharad’s party has won only 10 seats.

Sharad Pawar’s party had fielded candidates on 88 seats. Whereas Ajit had fielded candidates on 59 seats under the agreement and about 10 seats under the friendly fight.

In 2019, Sharad Pawar’s NCP got a total of 17 percent votes. In this election, Sharad Pawar’s NCP had won 54 seats. Pawar himself was trying to regain this figure, but he failed.

Lost in Muslim dominated areas

Ajit Pawar was in alliance with BJP this time. In such a situation, it was being said that Sharad Pawar’s party can easily win the Muslim dominated seats, but senior Pawar has lost to Ajit here also.

Only Ajit’s candidate has won in Muslim dominated Anushaktinagar and Kagal. In Anushaktinagar, Nawab Malik’s daughter Sana has defeated Sharad Pawar’s candidate Fahad Ahmed. Fahad has lost here by about 3300 votes.

Minister Hasan Musrif has won the Kagal seat. Musrif has defeated Sharad Pawar’s candidate Samarjit Ghatge here. Interestingly, Shiv Sena (UBT) and SP have defeated Ajit in the Muslim dominated seat.

Shiv Sena’s (Uddhav) Varun Sardesai has defeated Ajit’s candidate Zeeshan Siddiqui on Bandra East seat. Similarly, SP’s Abu Azmi has again become MLA by defeating Nawab Malik on Mankhurd seat.

Big upset compared to Lok Sabha

Sharad Pawar’s party had got lead on 38 assembly seats in the Lok Sabha elections, but this time the party has been reduced to 10. During the Lok Sabha elections in Sharad Pawar’s stronghold Baramati, Supriya Sule had got a lead of about 40 thousand votes, but this time Ajit has won by more than 1 lakh votes.

Similarly, it has been seen in Shirur, Parli and Yeola seats. Ajit’s veterans were contesting on these seats. Sharad’s party had got the lead in the Lok Sabha from here, but Ajit played the game in the Assembly.

Ajit Vs Sharad on 42 seats

In Maharashtra’s Dangal, there was a direct contest between Ajit and Sharad on 42 assembly seats. According to the Election Commission, out of these 42 seats, Sharad Pawar has won 7 seats and Ajit’s party has won the remaining seats.

7 seats which Sharad Pawar has won. They include seats like Islampur, Beed and Tasgaon. Ajit has won big seats like Baramati, Yeola, Dindori and Ambegaon.

In the assembly elections, Ajit’s party had fielded around 60 candidates and Sharad Pawar’s party had fielded 90 candidates.

What is the final result of Maharashtra?

According to the Election Commission, BJP has become the largest party. BJP has won 132 seats. Shiv Sena (Shinde) has won 57 seats and NCP-Ajit has won 41 seats. Uddhav Thackeray’s party has won 20 seats. Congress has won 16 seats and Sharad Pawar’s party has won 10 seats.

Others have won 10 seats. These include 2 SP and 2 Jansuraj Shakti seats. This time in Maharashtra, 2 independents have also been successful in winning.
