Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 Indian athletes have worked day and night to prepare for the event. But do you know how much was spent on those preparations? How much money was spent on which sports? Where was which player sent for training? How much did all this cost? It is being said that the total expenditure incurred on the entire preparations of the Indian team was Rs 53.09 crores. Out of this, Rs 48.90 crore comes from Annual Calendar for Training and Competition i.e. ACTC, which is given to National Sports Federations i.e. NSFs under the assistance scheme. The remaining Rs 4.19 crore comes through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).
How much money was given for which game?
Now the question is that out of Rs 53.09 crore, how much was spent on which sports? The money was mainly given to those sports federations whose players were India’s biggest medal hopes. The largest share out of Rs 53.09 crore was given to the Athletics Federation of India. AFI received more than Rs 20 crore so that it can prepare its players for Glasgow 2026. Can provide all necessary facilities for that.
Boxing Federation of India received more than Rs 10 crore to prepare its players. Indian Weightlifting Federation received Rs 5 crore to Rs 7.5 crore. Whereas gymnastics, judo, cycling, swimming, lawn bowls and para athletics sports associations were given Rs 15.59 crore to Rs 18.09 crore.
Where did the player associated with which sport train?
Now the question is, where did the players of which sports association train? The 32-member athletics team, which includes big names like Neeraj Chopra, Gurinderveer Singh and Parul Chaudhary, all prepared at the Spala Olympic Training Center in Poland. Gulveer Singh and Parul Chaudhary took altitude training under coach Scott Simmons in Colorado Springs, USA. Priyanka Goswami did long sessions in Canberra, Melbourne, Switzerland and France. Whereas Murali Srishankar underwent knee surgery and rehab in Doha hospital.
The 14-member boxing team trained in Belfast, Ireland. The 12-member weightlifting team went to Birmingham and sweated. While the 6-member trek cycling team trained in France, the lawn bowls team stayed in Glasgow for training so that it could adapt to the conditions there.
