Zomato has increased its platform charge by 19% to ₹14.90 per order. Due to this increase made to increase expenses and improve profits, every order will now cost ₹ 2.40 more.

Bengaluru: If you also order biryani or pizza from Zomato, then the burden on your pocket is going to increase a little more. The company has increased its platform charge by 19% from Friday. Where earlier every order used to cost ₹ 12.50, now ₹ 14.90 will have to be paid. That means directly ₹ 2.40 more on every order. GST will be charged separately on this, due to which this amount will increase further.

What is this platform fee?

There is an extra charge apart from the platform fee, GST, restaurant charge and delivery fee. Zomato delivers around 20 to 25 lakh orders daily. In such a situation, even this small increase will bring profit worth crores for the company. Interestingly, Zomato’s biggest competitor Swiggy is also charging a platform charge of around ₹ 14.99 including taxes.

Travel from ₹2 to ₹14.90

The company has increased the platform fees for the second time in the last seven months. It started in August 2023, when the company imposed a charge of ₹ 2 for the first time to increase profits. It was gradually increased to ₹3 and then to ₹4 in January 2024. By the beginning of 2025, this fee had reached ₹7. After this, it was increased by 20% in September 2025. Now in March 2026 it has been increased to ₹ 14.90.

Why were the prices increased?

It is being told that the rising prices of crude oil and increasing operational costs of running the company are the main reasons for this decision. When oil prices increase, the expenses of delivery partners also increase, which directly impacts the logistics of the company. Apart from this, Zomato keeps changing this fee from time to time to improve its profit margin.

From ‘Foodie’ to ‘Zomato’…

Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddha started a restaurant directory website named ‘FoodieBay’ in 2008. In just nine months it became a huge hit in Delhi-NCR. Its name was changed to ‘Zomato’ in 2010. From 2012, the company also started its services in other countries like Sri Lanka, UAE and Britain. Zomato also became the country’s first ‘food-tech unicorn’ (a startup valued at more than $1 billion). In 2022, Deepinder Goyal bought ‘Blinkit’ to expand the grocery delivery business. Last year, he changed the name of his company to ‘Eternal’, although the name of the food delivery app remained Zomato.
