Zimbabwe Cricket has unveiled its squad for the upcoming home series against the West Indies, which includes a three-match ODI and T20 series.
Wicketkeeper-batter Chiedza Dhururu and 19-year-old leg-spinner Olinda Chare have been recalled to the team.
All-rounder Josephine Nkomo will lead the 16-member squad, taking over as captain following the retirement of veteran Mary-Anne Musonda. Dhururu last played for the national team during their tour of New Zealand earlier this year, while Chare made her T20 debut against Pakistan in May.
The selectors have made three changes to the team that faced South Africa in Bulawayo. Lauren Pemhiwa and Lindokuhle Mabhena have been dropped, and Laurin Tshuma is sidelined due to injury.
In a strategic selection move, 20-year-old right-arm fast bowler Kudzie Chigora has been included only in the ODI squad, while seam bowler Francisca Chipare is part of the T20 team exclusively.
The ODI matches are scheduled to take place at Harare Sports Club on September 24, 27, and 30. This series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship. Following the ODIs, three T20 matches will be held at Takashinga Cricket Club on October 3, 5, and 7.
This series marks an important milestone for Zimbabwe, as it is their first participation in the ICC Women’s Championship. It follows their recent tours to New Zealand and Pakistan. After the West Indies series, the team will embark on their inaugural tour to India, featuring three T20 matches at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on October 16, 18, and 20, followed by three ODIs at BCA Stadium in Vadodara on October 23, 25, and 28.
Zimbabwe Women’s Team: Josephine Nkomo (Captain), Bilwird Bija, Chiedza Dhururu, Chippo Mugeri-Tiripano, Christina Mutasa, Kelis Ndhlovu, Lorin Firi, Michelle Mavunga, Modester Mupachikwa, Nomvelo Sibanda, Nyasha Gwanjura, Olinda Chare, Sharne Meyers, Tendai Makusha, Kudzie Chigora (ODI only), and Francisca Chipare (T20 only).
