India legend Yuvraj Singh has credited captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir for rapid rise in international cricket.
Sharma has been a magnificent find for India in T20Is, drawing applause for his aggressive gameplay. Speaking to PTI, Yuvraj drew similarities between his career trajectory and Abhishek’s surge, saying that Sharma’s fearless approach to the game comes from the support he gets from the captain and coach.
“I think the fearlessness also comes with support from the coach and the captain,” Yuvraj explained. “When the coach and captain allow you to go and play your game fearlessly, it allows you to express yourself, and that’s where I come from as well. When Gary Kirsten was the coach, he would always tell me that if you go and play your game and if you play the way you do, you will put India in a winning position.”
“Hence the confidence that Gautam and Suryakumar have given him, if you go and play your game, you will put India in a winning position six out of ten times, and that is what he is doing.”
Abhishek Sharma had a terrific Asia Cup, where he scored 314 runs at a strike rate of 200. He carried the form over to the Australia tour, where he scored a blistering 68 in the second T20I. In 26 T20Is, Abhishek has scored 961 runs, with two centuries and six fifties at a strike rate of 192.20.
Abhishek Sharma Nearing Big Milestone
Abhishek Sharma, meanwhile, is nearing a big milestone in T20Is. Abhishek’s 961 T20 runs have come in just 500 balls; thus, if he can score the remaining 39 runs in 68 balls or less, he will become the fastest player to reach the 1000 run mark in T20Is in terms of balls. The record is held by Tim David, who reached the milestone in 569 deliveries.
