Hindu trader killed in Bangladesh
In a shocking incident, a 62-year-old Hindu trader was hacked to death in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. The incident took place on February 9, just three days before the country goes to the polls. The incident took place at the Bogar Bazar intersection in the Upazila, Trishal Police Station chief Muhammad Firoz Hossain said.
The victim has been identified as Susen Chandra Sarkar. A resident of Southkanda village, he was the owner of ‘Bhai Bhai Enterprise’. Sharing details, the police said that Sarkar was attacked with a sharp weapon. After the attack, the attackers left him inside his shop and locked it from the outside. After he did not return home, his family started searching for him.
When they opened the door of the shop, he was covered with blood. He was then rushed to a hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. Amid protests in Bangladesh since last couple of years, several Hindus and others from minorities have been killed, leading to tensions between Dhaka and New Delhi. Bangladesh is all set to go on polls on February 12. While the Awami League has been banned, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) ad Jamat-e-Islami (JeI) are the main contenders this year.
