YouTube search gets major update: Find videos, channels and shorts faster

New Delhi: YouTube is updating its search technology in a big way and now serves its users with more accurate options in order to locate the content they desire. The new tools on the platform are aimed at enhancing the advanced search features, and it is easier to allow the viewers to filter and prioritise the results. These developments follow as YouTube keeps pushing to make Shorts more and more prominent alongside the traditional videos.

The revamp makes search more streamlined, minimising clutter and outdated features. The interface has become less cluttered, and users can now expect a cleaner interface which has fewer options to navigate but still gives power users the ability to fine-tune their searches.

Shorts now included in search filters

Shorts have also been added as one of the most striking filters. In the past, search filters could only give people the option to sort by videos, channels, playlists and movies. Due to the upsurge of Shorts, YouTube has now made them official in their list, and now the viewers can easily find short videos without scrolling indefinitely.

‘Priority’ replaces sort by

The search results in YouTube have been made easy. The Sort By section has been changed to Priority, and there are only two options, namely Relevance or Popularity. Some of the options, such as Upload Date, View Count, and Rating, have been eliminated or modified, and the View Count is now reflected under Popularity. The purpose of these changes is to provide users with faster access to what is important to them without cluttering them with options.

Some features are being removed

Some features are also removed in the search interface and the update. The filters of Upload Date, Sort By, and Last Hour are gone, and it may require some time before the users who used them frequently get used to this. Irrespective of these removals, YouTube states that the reforms will enable users to have faster and more accurate results in search of content.

The implementation is still going on on the YouTube site and in applications. There are users who might be exposed to the new interface earlier than others, although the update is likely to be time-bound to all people in the near future.
