‘Your share of mosquitoes bite me’: AMU students fight over mosquito net

Aligarh: A strange disagreement over a mosquito net at Aligarh Muslim University turned into a physical fight between two students sharing a hostel room.

The incident reportedly took place at the university’s SS North Hall hostel, where both students later submitted written complaints to the Proctor Office. University authorities are currently looking into the matter.

Fight over mosquito net

According to reports, one of the students, a Kashmiri undergraduate student, installed a mosquito net around his bed to avoid mosquito bites while sleeping.

However, his roommate, who is reportedly from Ghazipur, objected to the arrangement. The second student allegedly believed that the mosquito net was causing mosquitoes to move toward his side of the room instead.

The disagreement reportedly escalated after the student accused his roommate of sending his share of mosquitoes toward him.

Apart from the mosquito issue, the second student also reportedly complained that the mosquito net was blocking airflow from the cooler installed in the shared room.

What began as a small disagreement over comfort and sleeping arrangements eventually turned into a heated argument and later a physical altercation between the two students.

AMU Professor Naved Ali Khan confirmed the incident and said the students belonged to different academic years while sharing the same hostel room.

According to officials, one of the students is studying in BA second year while the other is in BA third year.

Speaking about the matter, the Proctor described the incident as unfortunate and said the complaints mainly revolved around the mosquito net allegedly diverting mosquitoes and obstructing cooler airflow.

University authorities said discussions have been held with both students in an attempt to resolve the issue peacefully through counselling.

Officials also stated that if the inquiry finds that any student took the law into their own hands, suitable action would be taken against those involved.
