Acting on the information, police rushed to the spot and found the woman, identified as Sunita Pandit (24), a native of Uttar Pradesh and resident of IDC Cuncolim, lying on the floor. She was declared dead by the 108 medical staff present at the scene.
During enquiry, the deceased’s husband, Ramu Pandit, informed police that he had gone out to consume alcohol at around 6.00 pm on Saturday. On returning to his room, he noticed that the door was locked from inside. Despite repeatedly calling out to his wife, there was no response. He then broke open the door and found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta tied around her neck. With the help of neighbours, he lowered the body.
Police conducted a scene of occurrence panchanama under Unnatural Death (UD) procedures. The body of the deceased has been preserved at the District Hospital, Margao, for further medico-legal formalities.
Further enquiry in the case is being carried out by PSI Aditya Sawant of Cuncolim Police Station.
