The Ministry of Labor and Employment has made a big deal with Porter and Gigin Technologies. So that employment opportunities can be increased and digital job matching can be strengthened through the National Career Service (NCS) portal. According to a statement from the Labor Ministry, Porter is expected to create large-scale logistics and driving opportunities, and aims to create more than 30 lakh opportunities by 2030. The statement also said that Gigin Technologies is also expected to create 2-3 lakh verified employment opportunities every year, in which more than 1.5 lakh employers will be connected through NCS. These MoUs were signed in the presence of Union Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
More than 7 lakh active vacancies on the portal
Mandaviya said that the NCS platform has emerged as an effective ‘one-stop solution’ for those youth who are looking for employment opportunities as per their skill set. Currently, more than 7 lakh vacancies are active on the portal, and approximately 59 lakh institutions have registered on NCS, opening up many new avenues of employment for young job seekers. The Minister said that these partnerships will prove to be mutually beneficial for all stakeholders, and will further strengthen the NCS portal. Mandaviya emphasized on the integration of NCS with e-Migrate, SIDH and My Bharat platforms as well as the portals of different states, making it truly huge and transformative in terms of its scope and reach.
What suggestion did the minister give?
Emphasizing the need to address the skills gap, he urged Gigin and Porter, in collaboration with NCS, to create ways to provide ‘soft skills’ training to registered job seekers. He suggested that short-term training courses, designed as per the demands of job seekers and industry needs, would go a long way in bridging the skill gap and enhancing the employability of our youth.
