Yogi government’s strict action: Big attack on illegal liquor mafia in Uttar Pradesh, lakhs of liters of liquor seized

Yogi government launched a big campaign against illegal liquor in Uttar Pradesh. 70,017 cases registered, 18.5 lakh liters of liquor seized, thousands of arrests and strict action against inter-state gangs created a stir among the mafias.

The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has launched the biggest and most effective campaign ever against illegal liquor and drugs. The government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given a clear message that there is no place for illegal liquor mafias in the state. Law and order has been further strengthened by strict rules, constant monitoring and strong administrative system. The main objective of this campaign is to ensure public safety.

The Excise Department has registered a total of 70,017 cases against illicit liquor trade in the financial year 2025–26 till October 2025. During this period, 18.5 lakh liters of illicit liquor was recovered. 13,243 people involved in illicit liquor trade were arrested and 2,464 accused were sent to jail.

The operation remained intense in November 2025 too, with 10,002 new cases registered and 2.35 lakh liters of illicit liquor recovered in just one month. These figures show that the government is working strictly against the liquor mafia.

Special raid campaign to stop illegal liquor during festivals

In view of the possibility of increase in illicit liquor consumption during festivals and special occasions, the government launched 5 special campaigns till October in the financial year 2025–26. The sixth phase of these campaigns is starting from 17th November till 16th December.

During these special operations:

20,590 cases registered

5.2 lakh liters of illicit liquor recovered

3,976 people were arrested

657 accused were sent to jail

23 smuggling vehicles seized

These campaigns have directly attacked the big network of illicit liquor.

Yogi government’s big attack on interstate liquor smuggling gangs

Between April and October 2025, the Excise Department also conducted special campaigns against interstate liquor smuggling. During this period, large quantities of liquor were recovered in many districts:

Sonbhadra – 18,491 liters

Mathura – 9,913 liters

Lucknow – 7,247 liters

Ballia – 6,152 liters

Azamgarh – 4,958 liters

This action proves that this time the action against gangs operating at the interstate level has been most effective.

Districts with highest number of illegal liquor seizures in Uttar Pradesh

The districts from which the maximum amount of illicit liquor was seized in the operations till October 2025 are:

Rampur – 62,950 liters

Bareilly – 59,451 liters

Lakhimpur Kheri – 55,697 liters

Jhansi – 45,080 liters

Hardoi – 45,053 liters

The number of cases registered in these districts was also quite high:

Lakhimpur Kheri – 2,480 cases

Rampur – 1,677 cases

Bareilly – 1,646 cases

During these operations, a large number of vehicles used in smuggling were also seized, which has dealt a major blow to the illicit liquor trade.
