Mantravati Shakya, a resident of Bhatora village, who was once struggling with limited resources and financial crisis, is today living in the village and earning an annual income of about three lakh rupees from the cultivation of strawberry, dragon fruit and ragi. Hard work and skill changed direction, Mantravati moved ahead from traditional farming
After joining the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Mantravati shifted from traditional farming to profitable and market-oriented crops. Mantravati, who studied till eighth standard, proved that difficulties cannot stand in front of skill and hard work. In challenging times like the Corona period, he laid a strong foundation for his future.
Sustainable income from strawberries, dragon fruit and ragi
Mantravati cultivates strawberries in one bigha of land, the crop of which is ready from October to March. Apart from this, she is cultivating dragon fruit in three bighas, which is harvested in six months. She also cultivates coarse grains like ragi, which is ready in five to six months. From these crops they are getting stable and reliable income throughout the year.
By joining the self-help group, she is also giving training to other women.
Mantravati is now improving not only her own life but also the lives of other women. She has given training in modern farming to more than 50 women from different blocks of the district. He says that the work can be started easily by forming a self-help group of 12 to 15 women.
Group friends provide access to government schemes
Mantrawati says that the group Sakhi posted in the NRLM office at the block level supports the women at every level. From opening a bank account to availing benefits of government schemes, Group Sakhi provides complete guidance. It requires only Aadhar card, bank passbook and photograph.

Joint Mission Director of State Rural Livelihood Mission, Janamejay Shukla said that at present the target is to make 30 lakh self-help group women from agriculture and non-agriculture sector as Lakhpati Didi. There is a plan to increase this number to one crore rural women in the coming years.
