Earlier, Chief Minister Adityanath paid tribute to former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and former Governor of Rajasthan Kalyan Singh on his birth anniversary, and highlighted his contribution to the development of the state and the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. CM Yogi Adityanath lauded Kalyan Singh for “relinquishing” his CM post “without any hesitation” at the peak of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.

The Chief Minister said that Kalyan Singh’s tenure as UP CM will be remembered for pursuing development and nationalist missions. Addressing an event in Lucknow, Yogi Adityanath said, “When the Ram Janmabhoomi movement was at its peak, he resigned his post (as CM) without any hesitation, respecting the sentiments of Lord Ram’s devotees. When the structure symbolizing slavery was demolished, he immediately took up the responsibility.”

He said, “Reverend ‘Babuji’, who was an embodiment of devotion, sacrifice and dedication, gave a new impetus to the development of Uttar Pradesh through his public-welfare policies and strong administrative determination. His life is a unique example of dedication towards society and the nation.” Kalyan Singh died on August 21, 2021, due to sepsis and multi-organ failure at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow.

Singh served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice, from June 1991 to December 1992 and from September 1997 to November 1999, and was the Governor of Rajasthan from 2014 to 2019. He also held several organizational roles in the BJP at both the state and central levels. Kalyan Singh was the Chief Minister at the time of demolition of Babri Masjid. Hours after the demolition, he resigned as chief minister. After this, the Congress led central government dismissed the Uttar Pradesh government on the same day. Singh later faced legal proceedings for the incident and even went to jail for a day.
