Rain threat looms large over the Women’s World Cup final between at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Due to cyclonic circulation and low air pressure, a yellow alert has been issued for Maharashtra, with Mumbai and nearby regions witnessing thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall.
The blockbuster final will be played on Sunday, but the forecast is not that great.
A day before the game, on Saturday, there is nearly an 86 percent chance of rain. The conditions will stay overcast, but the weather is likely to improve as the day progresses. Sunday is also likely to see similar weather conditions with a 63 percent chance of rain. There is over a 50 percent chance of rain between 4 PM to 7 PM on Sunday. The DY Patil stadium has already seen a washout between India and Bangladesh, and the forecast for the final is not very promising. Though the possibility of a complete washout is low, it can’t be fully ruled out.
What If IND-W vs SA-W Final Is Washed Out?
If the final between India women and South Africa Women is washed out, both teams will share the trophy, but it would be a shame because neither India nor South Africa have ever won the Women’s ODI World Cup. In fact, South Africa have made it to the final for the first time while India have played two finals, but lost both times.
Is There a Reserve Day In Place?
There is a reserve day in place if the match could not be completed on Sunday but there is over a 50 percent chance of rain on Monday as well, and the umpires will be keen to get the game done on Sunday, even if that means a shorter game is played. Meanwhile, India reached the final after pulling off a 339 run chase against Australia, while South Africa stunned England to make the summit clash.
