India vs South Africa 2nd Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his impressive form with the bat, scoring a promising fifty in the ongoing India vs South Africa 2nd Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday.
He played a magnificent knock of 58 runs in 97 balls on the back of seven fours and a six.
While Jaiswal provided a magnificent start to India in the first innings, the young opener created history by scoring the 20th 50+ score of his career, which included seven centuries. The star batter is playing the 28th Test match of his career and has 2498 runs at an average of 49.9. Jaiswal has become only the second Indian player, after Sachin Tendulkar, to have achieved this feat in Test cricket before turning 24 and the first to do so in the 21st century.
In Test cricket’s 148-year-old history, only six players have achieved the rare feat, with Alastair Cook and Kane Williamson being the only players to do it since the change of the millennium.
Most 50+ scores In Test Cricket History at Age 23
Sachin Tendulkar (IND): 29 scores (1989-1997)
Ramnaresh Sarwan (WI): 25 scores (2000-2004)
Alastair Cook (ENG): 23 scores (2006-2008)
Javed Miandad (PAK): 22 scores (1976-1981)
Yashasvi Jaiswal (IND): 20 scores (2023-2025)
Kane Williamson (NZ): 20 scores (2010-2014)
Jaiswal, who made his Test debut in 2023 during the West Indies tour, has the tally of seven centuries, which is the joint fourth in the history of the format at the age of 23, with only Don Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, and Gary Sobers ahead of him in the elite list. The Indian opener has converted five of his seven Test centuries to 150+ scores, a milestone only bettered by Bradman at this age. The second innings of this game will be the last time Jaiswal bats in Test cricket before his 24th birthday next month.
Apart from Jaiswal and Washington Sundar (48), the rest of the Indian batters had disappointing outings as the hosts were bowled out for just 201 runs in their first innings to give away a massive lead. Talking about Jaiswal, the left-handed batter has already toured Australia, South Africa and England as a Test batter.
