Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks Silence On Getting Ignored For Asia Cup 2025

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has broken his silence on getting ignored for the Asia Cup 2025. The left-handed batsman looked set to make his T20I comeback after a year.

But the selectors decided against making many changes in the squad. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson retained their spots while Shubman Gill made his return as the vice-captain. He was appointed the white-ball teams’ vice-captain in 2024.

Yashasvi was rested for India’s previous series against England early in 2025. His replacements did wonders in his absence and cemented their spot. “I don’t think about. It’s all in the hands of selectors. The decisions are taken according to the team combination. I will do whatever I can,” Yashasvi told Mashable India.

Yashasvi was a member of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team but did not get to play a game. He has scored 723 runs in 22 innings across 23 matches. He has a strike rate of 164.31. Yashasvi has one century and 5 fifties in the shortest format. He was a part of the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team which won the gold medal in 2023 Asian Games.

What Ajit Agarkar said on Yashasvi’s absence?

Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector of Team India, talked about Yashasvi’s absence and revealed the factor which went in Abhishek’s favour. “It’s very unfortunate for Yashasvi Jaiswal. With Abhishek doing well and also giving us a bowling option, one of the two had to miss out. Again, Shreyas Iyer has missed out for no fault of his. He has to wait for his chances,” he said after the selection meeting.

India’s performance in Asia Cup

Suryakumar Yadav-led India won all three matches in the league stage of the Asia Cup 2025 and qualified for the second round as table-toppers. They will face Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage. The Men in Blue are favourites to retain their title.
