Yamaha Flex-Fuel FZ Launched at Rs 1.24 lakh

This is the first Yamaha bike ever made to run on flex fuel. You can only buy it at special Yamaha shops called Blue Square. Right now, these shops are only in a few states: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.

The price is Rs 1.24 lakh. That is the showroom price, before extra costs. The engine is a little weaker. This bike uses the same engine as other FZ bikes. It is a 149cc engine with one cylinder. It is air-cooled and fuel-injected. But it makes less power. It gives 11.7PS  and 12.8Nm. That is 0.7hp and 0.5Nm less than the normal FZ.

Why is it weaker? Because ethanol fuel does not pack as much energy as normal petrol. So the engine makes less power when running on it. This happens with most flex-fuel bikes, not just this one. The regular FZ was already not the strongest bike in its class. Now, with even less power, the Blue Flex feels closer to smaller 125cc bikes.

Many parts are shared with the FZ Rave, a bike Yamaha launched last year. This includes the LED headlight, the fuel tank, the fake air vents, and the single seat. The gearbox still has 5 speeds. The front uses a telescopic fork. The back has a monoshock. It also has single-channel ABS, just like other FZ bikes.

But one thing is different, the ground clearance is lower. Other FZ bikes have 165mm of clearance. This one has only 135mm. That’s a big drop. The weight is 139kg. This is 3kg more than the FZ Rave. Right now, you can only get this bike in one colour: Metallic Black.
