Defending champion Mumbai Indians has returned to the winning path by breaking the streak of consecutive defeats. In their 7th match of WPL 2026, Mumbai Indians defeated table top Royal Challengers Bangalore by 15 runs. Batting first, Mumbai scored a big score of 199 runs on the basis of star all-rounder Nate Siver-Brunt’s historic century. In response, Bengaluru’s top and middle order faltered badly but young wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh took the team closer to victory by playing an explosive inning of 90 runs, which was insufficient. In this way, Mumbai equalized the loss suffered by Bengaluru in the first match and kept the playoff hopes alive.

Siwar’s historic century

In this match played on Monday 26th January in Vadodara, two foreign all-rounders of Mumbai Indians were in good form. It started with the batting, when Haley Matthews and Nate Siver-Brunt took charge after the early fall of the first wicket. Together, they made a quick partnership of 131 runs for the second wicket. Mathews was out after scoring 56 runs (39 balls) but Siver-Brunt (100 runs, 57 balls, 16 fours, 1 six) remained till the end and completed her century in the 20th over. She became the first player to score a century in WPL. Lauren Bell took 2 wickets for RCB.

Top order failed but Richa showed strength

But RCB batsmen could not respond in this manner and the top order including captain Smriti Mandhana failed miserably. The team had lost 5 wickets for just 35 runs in 5.1 overs. From here the team was not even looking to score 100 runs but Richa Ghosh and Nadine Declerc managed the innings to some extent. But on the score of 77, Declerc (28) also returned to the pavilion and again the innings seemed to be faltering. But Richa single-handedly attacked from one side and brought the team close to an impossible victory.

This also included 3 consecutive sixes hit in the 19th over. In the last over, 32 runs were needed to win but despite Richa’s best efforts, she could score only 16 runs. She was out after scoring 90 runs (10 fours, 6 sixes) in 50 balls. Mathews, who scored a half-century for Mumbai, took 3 top order wickets. Pacer Shabnim Ismail also took 2 wickets.
