On the occasion of World Sanskrit Day, there will be a three -day Sanskrit Gaurav Yatra, Society and Sahitya Day programs led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel from 6 to 8 August 2025. Its purpose is to conserve, promote and connect the younger generation.

Sanskrit makes knowledge, science and unity of nation strong through its thoughts, its literature. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, while mentioning the statement, has emphasized that more and more people read Sanskrit and study it. The Sanskrit language, which is called the oldest language in the world, is a lively expression of the sage tradition, philosophy, spirituality and cultural consciousness of India. Sanskrit is not just a language, but it is a life vision, which plays the role of a guide in the all -round development of man.

It is noteworthy that Sanskrit Day is celebrated in India on the full moon day (Rakshabandhan festival) of Shravan month every year and Sanskrit week is celebrated all over India for its promotion. This year 9 August is World Sanskrit Day, so Sanskrit week will be celebrated from 6 to 12 August 2025. A three -day special ceremony will be organized by the Gujarat government under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel in Gujarat on the occasion of Sanskrit Week.

Sanskrit Gaurav Yatra, Practice Day and Literature Day organized from 6 to 8 August

In the year 1969, Sanskrit Day began in collaboration with the Government of India and Sanskrit institutions. The main objective of this day is to promote Sanskrit language, spread awareness about its importance and connect the new generation with this ancient language. Under the National Education Policy-2020, a three-day programs have been organized in the state from 6 to 8 August 2025 in the state for the preservation and promotion of Sanskrit language. Sanskrit Gaurav Yatra will be observed on the first day, Sanskrit Samvarsha Day and Sanskrit Literature Day will be celebrated on the third day.

The Sanskrit Gaurav Yatra will be organized at the district and state level, under which students, teachers, schools, Sanskrit scholars, poets and writers will be involved in the journey with Sanskrit literature works, Sanskrit anthem and slogans. On the second day, on the Sanskrit Samvhan Divas, the Chief Minister will send a message in Sanskrit language at the district and state level including the Chief Minister. On the third day, on Sanskrit Literature Day, attempts will be made to establish the pride of Sanskrit literature in the society by organizing gatherings and lectures related to Veda Pujan, Vyas Pujan, Rishi Pujan, Acharya Pujan, Sanskrit literature at various levels across the state.

The spread of culture through Sanskrit enrichment

The ‘Gujarat State Sanskrit Board’ of the Government of Gujarat has implemented five special schemes for the all-round development of Sanskrit in the state under ‘Scheme Panchakam’ (group or collection of five schemes)- Sanskrit Week Festival, Sanskrit Promotion Assistance Scheme, Sanskrit Incentive Scheme, Srimad Bhagavad Geeta Scheme and Shat Subhashit Kanth recitation scheme.

Under the Sanskrit Weekotsav scheme, initiative will be taken to celebrate Sanskrit Week and Day in the entire state enthusiastically. Financial assistance will be given to institutions, researchers and teachers for organizing various activities for the promotion of Sanskrit under Sanskrit Promotion Assistance Scheme.

Under the Sanskrit Incentive Scheme, students, teachers and schools will be encouraged to study with Sanskrit subject in secondary schools. Under the Srimad Bhagavad Geeta Yojana, the children and elders of the state will be encouraged to contemplate the right direction of living and memorize the Gita with the help of ‘Shrimad Bhagavad Gita’. Under the Shat Subhashit Kanth Text Scheme, an incentive will be given to memorize 100 Subhashit for the development of moral values.

The goal of ‘Plan Panchakam’ launched by the Gujarat State Sanskrit Board is to conserve Sanskrit language, increase its popularity and connect future generations with the cultural heritage of the nation.

Central and state government committed to make Sanskrit language more popular

The day of Shravan Purnima was chosen to celebrate Sanskrit Day because the academic session started on this day in ancient India. Students started studying the scriptures from this day. Even today, the study of Vedas begins with Shravani Purnima. This day is considered a symbol of the tradition of sages and sages. Sanskrit Day and Sanskrit week are an important part of India’s cultural heritage. The central and state governments are making efforts to make Sanskrit more popular and accessible through technology and education in modern times.
