An 840 gram can costs around 10,800 JPY, or around Rs 6,000–7,000. At the time of launch, it was sold for around 9,496 yen, or about Rs 9,872 per kilogram. Today, it is available for Rs 12,500–15,000 per kg in different markets.
Why is this rice so expensive?
Kinmeimai Premium Rice is no ordinary grain. Made by Japanese company Toyo Rice Corporation, it is a blend of five different premium rice varieties. Award-winning rice varieties like Koshihikari and Pikamaru are blended. Its special thing is that these seeds are taken from the best areas of Japan, like Gunma, Nagano and Niigata.
The high price of rice is due to its long processing time. This rice is not brought to the market immediately after harvesting, rather, it is stored for about six months.

According to a CNN report, when this rice is cooked, its grains shine like precious diamonds. In terms of taste, it tastes much sweeter and nuttier than regular rice. Those who have tasted it say that its texture is very creamy and butter-like, which melts in the mouth.
