Anxiety aur heart attack risk: Mental health problems are becoming a new threat to heart disease (heart disease). Five reasons that increase heart risk for a long time, such as high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and smoking in the family are already spoiling the health of the heart. But now experts have started to believe that mental stress, depression or other mental problems can also affect the heart.
Depression and anxiety increase the risk of heart -related diseases by 50 percent. Especially stress-related risks, such as PTSD (post-tromatic stress disorder), early myocardial infarction, disturbances in heartbeat and sudden heart attack incidents have become even more serious.
How does mental stress affect the heart?
Dr. Varun Bansal in Cardiology Department at Apollo Hospital It is said that if we remain in stress or anxiety for a long time, cortisol and cataline mines in the body make more hormones and neurotransmitters (eg adrenaline) in the body. These hormones are part of a fight or flight (fighting or running) response and the body starts making them under pressure. These hormones can increase heartbeat and blood pressure.
Risk on the heart due to stress
Dr. Bansal says that mental stress not only affects the heart directly, but its other side effects also spoil the health of the heart. All these together increase inflammation in the body and inflammation can promote the onset of heart disease or deteriorating conditions.
- Physiological inactivity
- Diet
- Sleep
- Forget or take medicines
Physical inaction
When a person is under stress, then often his mind is to sit in a place to be lying down. Under stress, a person remains less active and also does not pay attention to exercise. Being under such stress for a long time or not having physical activity, the pressure on the heart muscle increases and they become weak. Due to which the risk of heart diseases increases.
Diet
Due to stress, people are often unable to take care of food and drink properly. In constant stress, the patient starts eating junk food, fried and sweet. These things not only increase weight, as well as blood sugar and cholesterol level also deteriorates, which increases more weight on which weakens the heart.
Sleep
Sleep is not complete due to stress and anxiety. Due to lack of sleep, the body does not repair properly, which increases the blood pressure. Its direct effect increases on the heart. The risk of heart attack increases due to lack of sleep.
Forget or take medicines
Those who are already eating medicines of any disease like heart, blood pressure or sugar medicines, then the patient is not able to complete the course of medicines properly under stress and often forgets to take medicines in time. This causes the disease to get out of control and suddenly a serious heart problem arises.
