Woolen Shawl Care: Proper washing, drying, daily care and storage is necessary to prevent the pile of woolen shawls from getting spoiled in one wash. Keep shawls soft for years by using cold water, mild detergent, dry flat and store in a cotton cover.
Woolen Shawl Care: Woolen shawl not only protects from cold in winter, but also gives a royal touch to the look. But a little carelessness – like wrong detergent, harsh rubbing or wrong storage – can spoil the shawl’s hair. The shawl may become stiff, dry or pilling in a single wash. If you want your soft woolen shawl to remain as good as new for years, then follow the care and storage tips given below.
correct way of washing
Never machine wash a wool shawl. Mix wool-friendly liquid or mild shampoo with cool or lukewarm water. Soak the shawl for 5-7 minutes, then clean it by pressing gently – do not rub. Instead of squeezing, let the water drain on its own. Due to this the fibers do not break and the hair remains soft.

Drawing and Ironing
Never dry a woolen shawl by hanging it in the sun. Due to strong sunlight the color fades and the hair becomes hard. Spread the shawl flat on a towel and dry it in the shade. If iron is required, do not press directly – place a cotton cloth on top and give low-heat steam. This keeps the fibers safe.
daily care
After wearing, dust the shawl and let it air. If pilling (small hairs/balls) is seen, remove it gently with a wool comb or soft brush. Do not spray perfume/deo directly on the shawl-chemicals damage the fibers.
correct storage
After the season, wash the shawl and dry it completely. Fold and keep in cotton cover or paper – plastic traps moisture. Keep neem leaves or lavender sachets to protect from insects. Hanging the shawl on a hanger stretches, so folded storage is best.
