After more than a month, the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 has come to an end. With the final played between India and South Africa in Navi Mumbai, the 13th edition of the tournament was completed and women’s cricket got a new champion. Team India also ended its wait to lift the World Cup trophy by defeating South Africa. The star of Team India’s victory was Deepti Sharma, who took 5 wickets in the final and led Team India to victory. The most important wicket in this was that of South African captain Laura Woolworth. Coincidentally, both these players proved to be the best players of the World Cup in terms of bowling and batting.

Woolwart best batsman with world record

Many players performed well individually in this tournament. Talking about batting, Team India’s star opener and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana scored more than 400 runs, while Pratika Rawal, who was playing in the World Cup for the first time, also scored more than 300 runs. Similarly, Australia’s legendary all-rounder Ashley Gardner scored more than 300 runs along with taking wickets. But South African captain Laura Woolworth achieved the feat of scoring the most runs in the tournament.

Star batsman Woolworth, who was captaining the South African team for the first time in the World Cup, continued her consistent run scoring process in the tournament and was the only batsman to score more than 500 runs in the tournament. Not only this, Woolworth also broke Alyssa Healy’s record of most runs in a Women’s World Cup edition. Healy had scored 509 runs in the World Cup 2022. Woolworth scored a brilliant century in the final. Even though this was not enough for her team to win, she proved to be the highest run-scorer in the World Cup by scoring 571 runs. Not only this, she also became the first captain in the history of men’s and women’s World Cup to score a century in the semi-finals and final.

Deepti took the most wickets

On the other hand, many players had excellent performance in bowling also. This World Cup was played in India and Sri Lanka and as expected, the spinners were in great form. Out of the top 6 bowlers taking the most wickets, 5 are spinners. The only fast bowler was Australia’s Annabel Sutherland, who took 17 wickets in 8 matches. But among all these, India’s star all-rounder Deepti Sharma won.

Before the final, Deepti and Sutherland had 17 wickets each. But in the final, Deepti gave an amazing performance and made Team India the champion by taking 5 wickets and with this she proved to be the most successful bowler of the tournament. Deepti could not break the record of most wickets in a World Cup, but she remained at the top with 22 wickets. The world record was made by Lynn Fulston of Australia (in 1982) by taking 23 wickets. But Deepti definitely became the bowler who took the most wickets for India in a World Cup. Not only this, Deepti also scored 215 runs in the tournament with the help of 3 half-centuries.
