Women’s Asia Cup: India begin Super 4s stage with 4-2 win over Korea

New Delhi: India edged past Korea 4-2 in their opening Super 4 stage match of the women’s Asia Cup hockey tournament in Hangzhou, China, on Wednesday. The impressive victory helped the Women in Blue maintain their unbeaten run in the continental competition.

Vaishnavi Phalke, Sangita Kumari, Lalremsiami, and Rutuja Pisal found the net for India, while Kim Yujin scored a brace for Korea from Penalty Corners.

India’s next match in the Super 4 stage is against China on Thursday in what will be their toughest challenge yet in the tournament. The match started late from the scheduled time of 2.15 pm IST after a delay of 90 minutes due to thunderstorms earlier in the day.

Can India continue their unbeaten run?

India ended the group stages on top of Pool B with seven points from three games. The Asian giants kicked off their campaign with a thumping 11-0 victory over Thailand, followed by a pulsating 2-2 draw against Japan. The Salima Tete-led side wrapped up their Pool stage with a dominating 12-0 win against Singapore.

In the Super4s stage, each team, India, China, Japan, and Korea, will play against each other once. The top two sides after the conclusion of the Super 4 stage will enter the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 final. The other two teams will play the 3rd/4th place match.
