Bengaluru: A shocking incident took place on Monday morning at the Sunkadakatte bus stand, where a 32-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her husband in front of her teenage daughter, police said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the woman, identified as Rekha, had married the accused, Lohitashwa (35), just three months ago. This was the second marriage for both of them. Preliminary investigation suggests that frequent quarrels between the two could have led to the crime.
Man stabs wife multiple times in chest
Police said the murder happened in full public view. Eyewitnesses tried to stop Lohitashwa, but he threatened them with the knife and ran away after stabbing Rekha several times in the chest and stomach. She collapsed on the spot and died from her injuries. Her 13-year-old daughter witnessed the entire incident.
Investigators revealed that Rekha worked at a call centre, while Lohitashwa was a cab driver. The two had met through common friends and were in a relationship for nearly one and a half years before deciding to get married.
The couple lived in a rented house near Sunkadakatte. Rekha’s elder daughter from her first marriage stayed with them, while her younger daughter lived with her parents. Since the wedding, they had regular fights, and on the day of the attack too, they argued.
After the quarrel, Rekha left for the bus stand with her daughter, when Lohitashwa followed her. Another argument broke out there, and in a fit of rage, he pulled out a knife and stabbed her, police said. A murder case has been filed at Kamakshipalya police station. Police confirmed that a manhunt has been launched to trace the accused, who is currently absconding.
