Woman Refuses To Work Overtime, Says ‘I Don’t Care If I Get Fired’ In Viral Video

Viral Video: A simple video, a strong message, one woman’s words are making thousands of people rethink their 9 to 5 life. Recently, a woman named Shatakshi Pandey shared a video on Instagram that’s now going viral. In it, she opens up about how she refused to work beyond her official office hours, and people on the internet can’t stop talking about it. Shatakshi shared how she was leaving the office after finishing her day’s work when her manager asked her to stay back and complete some more tasks. She politely said no. “I’ve finished my working hours, and I’m fasting today. I need to go home.”

But instead of respecting her time, her manager started comparing situations, saying how he had travelled overnight, came straight to the office at 7:30 AM, and was still working. That’s when Shatakshi decided to speak up. In her video, she questioned the mindset that forces people to feel guilty for leaving on time. She said, “Insaan do waqt ki roti kamaatahai. Agar wohbhisukoon se nahi kha sakta, tohkya fayda?”

She added, “This idea of killing yourself with extra work isn’t something to be proud of. I don’t care if you fire me, I won’t accept this toxic work culture.” Her words weren’t just bold, they were relatable. Many working professionals, especially women, shared and supported her video.

The video shared under the username ‘kad_shatakshi’ two days ago pulled 2.6 million views. Her message received a mixed response. While some applauded her for standing up for herself and demanding respect for personal time, others defended the hustle culture, saying extra effort is part of growth.

“Overworking isn’t flex, it’s exploitation. Respect to you for saying it out loud, dear,” a user wrote. “In India, staying back after work hours is seen as HARDWORKING. And in the rest of the world, it’s seen as LACK OF TIME MANAGEMENT,” a second user wrote. “I love how Gen Z is not up for it. They are outspoken, know their rights and are actually not afraid to apply. I wish I were like that in my early 20s,” added a third user.

“Your job is not your working hours, it’s the actual work. I am not asking to stay late, but plan and close your work on time. Nobody will bother you. What you did is good as a fresher, but senior roles don’t link to time, they do with responsibility. With experience, the timesheets just become formality,” a fourth user wrote. “To be honest, if you aren’t paid for the overtime, I would say that the company is inefficient. Period,” added another user.
