New Delhi: A day after it was passed in Lok Sabha, the National Sports Governance Bill received approval at Rajya Sabha, marking the start of an era where a national board will regulate India’s sports administration and disputes wwill be resoluted through a separate tribunal.
At Rajya Sabha, the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill was also passed with both these bill now awaiting presidential nod to be notified as acts.
Sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya moved the bills for consideration and passage at Rajya Sabha in the post luch session, amid opposition protests and subsequent walkout over electoral rolls in Bihar.
“In 20 countries, there is sports law. I request the Rajya Sabha to make India the 21st country with a sports law,” Mandaviya said, following a two-hour discussion was held.
