Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks: The US has proposed trilateral peace talks in Florida to end the Ukraine-Russia war. Ukrainian President Zelensky said whether talks would take place would depend on the outcome of US-Ukraine talks.
Ukraine-Russia Peace Initiative: A new diplomatic movement is being seen towards ending the Ukraine-Russia war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that the US has proposed trilateral peace talks between Ukraine, Russia and the US. This possible conversation can take place in the US state of Florida, where many important meetings are already going on. However, Zelensky made it clear that the decision on whether these talks will take place or not will depend on the outcome of the US-Ukraine talks, which started on Friday.
Europe may also be included
Speaking to journalists in Kiev, Zelensky said that if these trilateral talks go ahead, then delegations from European countries can also join it, because at present representatives of Europe are also present in Florida. In a joint press conference with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, Zelensky said, ‘America has previously asked for a separate meeting with Russia. After this, the format of Ukraine-US-Russia can be discussed and it is possible that Europe may also participate in it.
Next decision will be taken after US-Ukraine talks
Zelensky clarified that before any joint meeting, it will be seen how positive the US-Ukraine talks remain. Further strategy will be decided on that basis. The Ukrainian delegation is led by the country’s top security official Rustem Umerov. The talks are part of diplomatic activity that US envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner have already discussed with Kiev and European allies.
There will be separate talks with Russia also
According to sources, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may meet Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Florida. At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is also playing the role of National Security Advisor in the Trump administration, may attend some meetings.
Zelensky tough on signs of giving up ground
After the talks in Germany, Donald Trump had indicated that Ukraine may have to give up claims on some areas, which are not currently under Russia’s control. Zelensky has taken a tough stance on this statement and has rejected any such proposal earlier also. Zelensky said Ukraine and its allies are preparing any agreement very carefully, so that it is not just a deal for sharing territories or resources, but ensures lasting peace and strong security guarantees.
What is Ukraine’s biggest concern after the war?
According to Zelensky, Ukraine wants to know what steps its allies will take if Russia attacks again in the future. This includes the strength of the Ukrainian military, a possible sanctions package and strategies to deter Russia. He once again said that ‘the most important thing for us is a fair and durable peace.’
What is the plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war?
Under the 28-point peace plan prepared by America and Russia, a proposal to hold presidential elections in Ukraine is also included. Zelensky said that elections are possible only when there is a ceasefire or the war ends completely. He acknowledged that this issue has been raised by US partners and if they are insisting on it, they also have to help in ensuring secure elections.
Attempts have been made to stop the war before
Before becoming President for the second time, Donald Trump had claimed that he would end the war on the very first day of his tenure. However, so far their efforts have been hampered by the harsh conditions imposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Despite the Trump-Putin summit held in Alaska in August, no concrete result could be achieved on the ceasefire.
