Will the Duleep Trophy 2025 be Live Telecast Amid Fans Outrage? BCCI RESPONDS

BCCI addressed fan outrage over no live telecast of the Duleep Trophy 2025. Initially, only live scores were announced, but the BCCI secretary later confirmed the final will be televised under a 100-day domestic cricket broadcast deal.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) broke their silence amid outrage over no live telecast of the ongoing Duldeep Trophy 2025, the beginning of India’s domestic cricket season. The Duleep Trophy 2025 began with quarterfinals at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) Ground in Bengaluru on August 28, Thursday.

North Zone locked horns with East Zone, while Central Zone took on North East Zone in two quarterfinal matches at the CoE Ground in Bengaluru. The South Zone and West Zone will play in two different semifinals against the winners of the quarterfinals, with the final scheduled to be played in the second week of September.

India’s domestic cricket season often begins with the prestigious red-ball tournament, the Duleep Trophy, which serves as the curtain-raiser to the domestic calendar ahead of the Ranji Trophy and provides players with a platform to push their case for national selection. The ongoing Duleep Trophy season will conclude with the final between the winners of both semifinals in the second week of September.

Fans express outrage over no telecast of the Duleep Trophy

As the Duleep Trophy began on Thursday, the fans expressed their outrage at the BCCI for not telecasting the prestigious domestic tournament. While the local T20 leagues like Kerala Cricket League, UP T20 League, and Maharaj T20 Trophy are live telecast by their official broadcasters, fans questioned why a premier domestic tournament was not given a similar coverage.

On the eve of quarterfinals, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Domestic took to their X handle and wrote, “Ready, set, cricket! New Domestic Season, renewed energy, fresh battles – it all starts with the #DuleepTrophy. Follow all the live scores only on http://BCCI.TV and the BCCI Official Apps.”

However, there was no mention of the live telecast or streaming arrangements.

Since there have been no Indian cricket matches after the conclusion of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in August, and the Men in Blue are returning to action for the Asia Cup 2025 in September, the fans wish to see some cricket through the Duleep Trophy. Since BCCI did not mention the live telecast of the tournament, he fans expressed their anger on social media.

Indian cricket fans lambasted the BCCI for no live telecast of the Duleep Trophy, terming it ‘Outrageous’ and ‘Unfair’ for fans, who wish to see the matches live, especially when top cricketers are taking part in the prestigious tournament. Others stated that despite the BCCI being the richest board, proper arrangements for a live telecast or streaming of the Duleep Trophy have still not been made.

Will the Duleep Trophy be telecast after the outrage?

The social media outrage by fans over no telecast of the Duleep Trophy reached the ears of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia responded to the outrage, stating that the final of the domestic tournament will be live telecast, adding that the board has an agreement with a broadcaster for live coverage of 100 days of domestic cricket.

“There will be a live telecast of the final of the Duleep Trophy. We have an agreement with our broadcaster to ensure live telecast of 100 days of domestic cricket, which means that all our domestic tournaments are covered live,” Saikia told Times of India.

 

“The BCCI gives utmost importance to domestic cricket, which is why you will see that almost all the India players are in action in these matches,” he said.

Meanwhile, Danish Melawar, Rajat Patidar, Yash Rathod, Shubman Sharma, and Deepak Chahar helped Central Zone seal their semifinal spot by drawing the quarterfinal match against North East Zone, while centuries Yash Dhull and Ayush Badoni stormed North Zone into the semifinal by drawing the quarterfinal against East Zone.

South Zone will take on North Zone in the first semifinal, while West Zone will lock horns with Central Zone in the second semifinal at the BCCI CoE Ground on September 4.
