The government has clarified its position on that proposal of the Indian Bank of India (IBA). In which it has been said for banks to work 5 days a week. On 28 July 2025, the Finance Ministry in the Lok Sabha said in a written reply that IBA has proposed to declare a bank holiday on all Saturdays.
At present, this proposal is under consideration. Currently, the second and fourth Saturdays of the month are held in the government bank (PSBS). Along with this, the government also responded to the concerns raised about the shortage of employees and stated the status of staff in public sector banks.

The All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) has proposed to declare a holiday on all Saturdays. He says that this will increase the productivity, development, work capacity of employees and will promote better work culture in offices.
IBA applied for all Saturdays off
IBA has proposed to declare a bank holiday on all Saturdays. Earlier, after the 10th bilateral agreement and the 7th joint note, there was an agreement between the IBA and the unions/officials associations of employees. After this, the government issued a notification on August 20, 2015 under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 and declared the second and fourth Saturdays of every month public holiday.
Apart from this, there are business institutions run by the government bank board. Every bank recruits staff according to its need, in which the vacant posts are taken into account due to business needs, expansion of branches, retirement and other reasons. The recruitment of officers and staff is done year after year according to the needs of banks. According to information received from public sector banks, 96% staff are deployed as compared to their needs till 31 March 2025. A little shortage occurs due to retirement and other unexpected reasons.
