New Delhi: The hilarious banter between India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella has gone viral on social media, leaving the fans amused.
Jaiswal rage-baited Dickwella into throwing his wicket away by getting on his nerves during Sri Lanka’s 372-run chase in their second innings of the recently concluded Galle Test.
defeated Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first Test in Galle to take 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Having lost four wickets in their second innings at stumps on Day 4, Sri Lanka needed to showcase resistance and stage a fightback to save the Test match. However, the hosts succumbed under pressure soon after the end of the 95-run 5th-wicket stand between captain Dhananjaya de Silva and all-rounder Sonal Dinusha.
De Silva and Dinusha nullified India’s spin threat to give Sri Lanka a strong start on Day 5. However, Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Dickwella to break the partnership and pave the way for Manav Suthar to run through the remainder of Sri Lanka’s batting line-up and wrap up a big win for India.
Before Suthar’s heroics, India needed to get rid of the experienced Dickwella, who arrived in the middle after De Silva’s dismissal. Jaiswal decided to sledge the Sri Lankan batter, trying to unsettle him and managed to help Prasidh Krishna dismiss him cheaply on 10.
Jaiswal continuously chirped at Dickwella as soon as he walked out in the middle, leading to a heated yet hilarious exchange between the duo at one stage. Jaiswal urged Dickwella to play his shots, promising to help him get an IPL contract if he could hit the big shots against the Indian bowlers. Their exchange was caught on the stump mic and went viral.
The full conversation between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Niroshan Dickella:
Jaiswal: Come on yaar, there was a lot of shots in first innings. We need to see something, come on.
Dickwella: Yes?
Jaiswal: Yes, I want to see. Come on, show me. Hit him there (pointing towards deep square leg), come on. Why not?
Dickwella: No requirement. Take me (to) IPL, then I’ll hit.
Jaiswal: We will, we will. 100%. Come on, hit him a six , I’ll take you to the IPL.
Dickwella: Thank you.

Jaiswal’s ploy to unsettle Dickwella worked in India’s favour as the Sri Lankan batter was dismissed by Prasidh in the next over, trying to play an audacious shot. He tried to play an attacking shot against a short ball from Prasidh and ended up edging it to wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, who made no mistake with the catch.
Dickwella’s departure left Sri Lanka reeling at 156/6, sparking a mini collapse as the hosts were eventually bundled out for 206, with Suthar taking the last four wickets. India closed out a dominant 165-run win to go 1-0 up in the series.
