Will Suryakumar Yadav Play Qualifier 2? Coach Jayawardene Breaks Silence

Mumbai Indians (MI) are in top form in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, having defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs in the Eliminator to set up a clash with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. A win against Punjab will put MI in the IPL 2025 Final against RCB.

However, a brief injury scare involving star batter Suryakumar Yadav during the match raised concerns among fans.

Speaking after the game, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene put all doubts to rest with a positive update.

Suryakumar Fully Fit, Says Jayawardene

In the post-match press conference, Jayawardene confirmed that Suryakumar is fit and expected to play. “As far as I know, there’s nothing serious. I haven’t heard anything from the physio. He’s fine. Even if he has to bat on one leg, he will play against Punjab,” he said confidently.

“Minor Injuries Are Not a Worry”

Jayawardene also dismissed concerns about fitness ahead of the crucial match. “We know it’s a tough schedule for us, but I think everyone’s healthy, everyone’s fit. And don’t worry about those little tightnesses. I haven’t heard anything from the physios. I’m pretty sure that even with one leg, these boys will be playing for us. Don’t worry,” he added.

In Red-Hot Form and Chasing the Orange Cap

Veteran Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the standout performers of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

He has scored 673 runs in 15 matches at an impressive average of 67.30. Only Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan (759 runs) is ahead of him in the Orange Cap race. With potentially two more matches to play, Suryakumar needs just 87 runs to claim the Orange Cap.
