The craze of director Ramesh Sippy’s film Sholay has not diminished even after 50 years. Even today people remain excited to watch this film. The scene and every dialogue of this film is still present in people’s minds. The film has completed 50 years since its release and it is being released again in theaters. Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar, Dharmendra, Jaya Bhaduri and Amjad Khan played lead roles in the film. Meanwhile, Ramesh Sippy talked about the sequel of Sholay.
What did Ramesh Sippy say about the sequel of Sholay?
In an interview given to Free Press Journal, Ramesh Sippy said about the sequel of Sholay – “There are talks about it, but I never felt that a sequel should be made. I made whatever I wanted to make. This does not mean that I have to remake it or make a sequel. The concept of the sequel also has to be understood. Amjad Khan and Sanjeev Kumar have passed away. Then Amjad’s character was important. Maybe someone else could have done some work in Sanjeev’s getup. Maybe Gabbar can’t. I don’t think it makes sense. Personally I think Sholay should not be made again.” When asked if Sholay would be made today and who would play Jai and Veeru, Ramesh said, “I wouldn’t make it again, your question is right, I’m not against it but I never thought about it that way.”
