Will onscreen calculator be available in JEE Mains 2026? Know NTA’s answer

NTA has released a big update regarding JEE Mains 2026. The agency has clarified whether calculators can be used in the examination or not. Know complete details, JEE Main Session 1 registration last date and exam schedule.

JEE Main Calculator Use: National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an important clarification regarding the use of calculators in JEE Mains 2026 exam. The agency has made it clear that use of any kind of calculator will not be allowed in JEE Main 2026. Actually, confusion had spread among the students due to a mistake in the information bulletin of NTA, in which ‘onscreen calculator’ was mentioned. Now NTA has clarified the situation by issuing an official statement on this.

What did NTA say about onscreen calculator in JEE Main 2026?

NTA said that onscreen standard calculator was mentioned in Appendix-VIII of the Information Bulletin, but this feature is not applicable to JEE Main exam. It is simply part of the platform on which other computer based examinations are conducted. The agency further said that the use of calculators in any form is completely prohibited in JEE Mains 2026. NTA has termed this mistake as a typing error and has also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the students. Also, the candidates have been appealed to download the Revised Information Bulletin from the NTA website.

Calculator will not work in JEE Mains 2026

Simply put, if you are preparing for JEE Main 2026, you have to rely on your brain and math skills to solve the questions in the exam. Be it onscreen calculator or physical calculator, both will not be allowed.

JEE Mains 2026 session 1 registration continues

  • The application process for JEE Main 2026 Session 1 has started from 31 October 2025.
  • Candidates can apply till 27 November 2025. To apply, candidates will have to register by visiting the official website of NTA JEE, jeemain.nta.nic.in.

When will JEE Mains exam be held?

Exam city details will be released in the first week of January 2026. JEE Main Session 1 exam will be conducted from January 21 to January 30, 2026. The exam will be conducted in 13 languages ​​English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
